Provided by St Albans City and District Council, the ‘Mayor’s Pride Awards’ is a brand new initiative, seeking to celebrate generous spirited individuals and outstanding organisations for the efforts they have made to benefit residents of the district. A wide variety of nominations have already been received, but there is still time to nominate individuals and groups for an award.

Community Project Officer, Ricky Manning said, “We are very pleased with the responses received so far; the judges will have some heartfelt nominations to sift through. However, it’s not too late to nominate! With so many individuals and groups working for the benefit of other residents in the community, it is likely that YOU know of a deserving nominee. We will consider all nominations submitted by Monday 14 March”.

Speaking on the awards, the Mayor of St Albans City & District, Cllr Maxine Crawley commented: ”Whilst nominations are still open for all categories, we are looking for further nominees for the following awards”:

Child or Young Person of Courage

“As some of you know, one of the aims of my Mayoral year has been to highlight our vulnerable children and work towards true integration of these special youngsters into our society. This is an award especially for the youth of our District and nominations are welcome for any child or teenager who has shown courage. Again this can be either a single act or something that they have needed to cope with in their lives that most youngsters haven't had to experience. This category is especially close to my heart and I want to hear your stories.”

Award for Bravery (adults)

“This category can include so many types of bravery from a single act of courage to coping with loss, illness or other tragedies. I think that we all have our moments of bravery and I'm looking forward to celebrating the courage of the winner of this award and listening to the stories of all of the people nominated. They are all certain to be both moving and uplifting.”

Outstanding Dedication to the Emergency Services & Armed Forces

“This is a slightly different category because it's celebrating outstanding dedication by someone who is already working in our Emergency Services or Armed Forces. Even though most are already paid for their work, I have heard amazing stories of people going above and beyond their jobs to help, save or protect another person or people.  These are the men and women I want to celebrate - the ones who make you feel proud and to whom you want to give an extra thank you.”

Environmental Champion

“Reducing our carbon footprint is an important issue for St Albans city and district and everyone can play their part. There are many individuals and organisations going the extra mile to create a greener and more sustainable district for future generations to enjoy. If you know of such a person or organisation please nominate them for the Environmental Champion of the Year award.”
