Set in over 100 acres of beautiful parkland, and named after the Roman city of Verulamium on which it stands, is St Albans’ largest and most visited park. A short walk from the city centre, this park has something for everyone: a wide range of sports facilties, a large ornamental lake, the Roman mosaic, and for children, a playground and splash park. Well served by car parks and wit a range of eating establishments nearby, the park hosts a number of events throughout the year, including the half-marathon and the November firework spectacular.

Clarence Park

A classic Victorian park, Clarence Park was given to the people of St. Albans by a local benefactor, Sir John Maple, in 1894.

The park is divided into 16 acres of sports grounds and 9 acres devoted to recreational use. The park has been given a facelift thanks to a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the park’s original features have been restored to their former glory. The park has been awarded with a quality standard recognition of a Green Flag. Clarence Park has many facilities which include a bandstand, a water fountain, the impressive cricket pavilion, bowling green, croquet lawn as well as being the home of St Albans City Football Club. The park is well known for its trees, formal bedding schemes and the very popular children’s playground, which includes new equipment for the disabled.
