On the surface they may seem like a rather odd match: auteur director Tim Burton, responsible for such gothic fayre as Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice, and the famously family-friendly House-of-Mouse. However, they have more in common than you might think.
You may already know that Burton and Disney have been collaborating for decades. Back in the 80s, when Burton was cutting his teeth in the movie business, Disney hired him to work as an animator for The Fox and the Hound. Since then they have worked together on a variety of projects.
Burton’s signature trope of celebrating the misfits and outcasts – those who succeed despite the suspicion and ridicule of the mainstream – makes him the perfect champion for this large-lobed pachyderm.
The storyline has been expanded for this redux with much more of the storyline given to injured war veteran and former equestrian performer, Holt Farrier (Colin Farrell), and Danny De Vito’s seedy circus owner, Max Medici.
Michael Keaton, Eva Green, Roshan Seth and Alan Arkin complete the star-studded line-up
making for a fresh experience that will delight newcomers and devoted fans of the original alike.
