Picturesque Pubs: Victorian artists’ views of St Albans

Frederic Kitton was one of the more prominent artists who painted the old buildings of St Albans in an attempt to preserve them at least in picture, but he was not the only one.

Many of these old buildings had been, or would become inns or pubs and while not all suffered the destruction that Kitton feared, a number did. This lecture will look at a selection of pubs in the town that were recorded by the Victorian artists and examine their histories.
