Profile
The Caution Horses are a unique outfit playing original music along with a wide range of well known covers spanning the last sixty years.
Originally picking up gigs as an acoustic duo, Ray and Lauren have been playing the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire/Buckinghamshire pub circuit since 2008. They have also performed at numerous weddings and parties and their repertoire of approximately 200 songs means that sets can be tailored to suit any venue or occasion with ease.
Achieving success as a duo, including several long-term residencies, The Caution Horses soon expanded the line-up for the occasional gig: some nights a trio, others as a 4-piece. They built on this even further for showcase nights, but in particular for the summer festival season. The full 7 piece band has played many high-profile events such as CROXFEST, RICKMANSWORTH CANAL FESTIVAL and THE WENDOVER FESTIVAL.
2013 saw the addition of local singer/songwriter Jonny Fox to the regular line-up, bringing his skillful musicianship on a range of instruments, including banjo, electric guitar, resonator, harmonica, percussion and that all important third vocal for some of those rich 3 part harmonies.
The summer of 2013 saw the Horses grace many a festival stage. One of the highlights was when they were invited to play to an all American crowd at the ‘Democrats in the U.K’ Annual Independence Day Picnic in Portman Square, London. A daunting task for an English band playing American influenced music to Americans, but the Horses pulled it off and went down a storm.
If you’re looking to book The Caution Horses, they will be happy to put together a combination to suit the occasion, whether it be duo, trio, 4-piece, or the full festival band.
What do The Caution Horses sound like? Well, the mostly acoustic arrangements coupled with rich vocal harmonies and re-workings of well-known songs means that it’s hard to pin them down to one particular style of music. There’s country, pop, blues, folk, and rock all sitting comfortably side by side in any performance.
The extended line-up sees the addition of banjo, cajon, drums, double bass, electric guitar, fiddle, resonator guitar, washboard, djembe, 3-part backing vocals, and ‘pots and pans’…giving the songs an altogether more rootsy, country sound which suits the original music down to the ground.
The Caution Horses released their debut album ‘STRANGE AND BEAUTIFUL WORLD’ in 2008, followed by their ‘HIGH COUNTRY’ E.P. in 2011. Regular gigging kept Ray and Lauren busy for the next couple of years, but they still found the time and inspiration to pen some new songs along the way. These would eventually appear on The Caution Horses ‘CHERRYPICKER’ album in the summer of 2013. Part new material, part retrospective, their latest release has 18 tracks, jam packed with hooks and catchy choruses and captures the Horses live sound with contributions from the extended band members. You can listen to tracks from CHERRYPICKER right here on Lemonrock.
